What does it mean to be Congregational?
This class will look at the roots of congregationalism in early Christianity, its history in Europe and early American life, and then modern times. It will take place by video lecture, readings, and Zoom discussion. The class will begin in January 2026. |
Western culture is being exposed to different world religions at an increasing rate. This has affected the ways that our society interacts with each other in the neighborhoods, businesses, schools, and universities. How is a Christian to adapt to these changes? In this class, we will develop understanding, explore appropriate ways to interact with those of different beliefs, and consider ways to share appropriately the Christian faith.
Systematic TheologyWhat are the main teachings of the Bible? Several have written relevant books that give the beliefs of the Bible. In this class, you will read through a leading Systematic Theology textbook and then discuss with an instructor who has read many over the years.

I attended the Congregational Institute online (a missionary to Ukraine for nearly 28 years, I was "stranded" in Ohio because of the war), and found it stimulating and focusing, both intellectually and spiritually. Even in the midst of the crisis that was fiercely wearing on my emotions, or perhaps especially because of it, the chance to "come away for a while" and join a classroom full of folks with such diverse life-experience, led by a masterful teacher of deep biblical insight, was a gift—a gift of refreshed perspective on the foundations and, yes, the horizons of our life in the Conquering Savior Christ Jesus.
